Sophia Greiff is an author and curator for photography. From 2011 to 2017 she co-organized the Fotodoks Festival for Contemporary Documentary Photography in Munich – a festival that aims at highlighting auteur photography in a changing partner country, enhancing dialogue between photographers worldwide and discussing the future of documentary photography.
She studied Cultural Studies at Europe-University Viadrina, Frankfurt/Oder and Transforming Communities at American University, Washington, D.C.. Subsequently she completed her Master of Arts in Art and Culture Education at Bremen University.
From 2011 until 2013 Sophia Greiff was a scholar of the program Museum Curators for Photography by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and has been working on exhibitions and publications at Münchner Stadtmuseum, Museum Folkwang Essen, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Since 2016 she is research assistant in the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography program of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hanover and writing her PhD on alternative storytelling in contemporary photojournalism (Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen), amongst other things.
